02 Liberty Ignition, Broke

There is a shaft that passes through a block on the underside of the steering column and ties the key cylinder to the ignition switch. On mine it is broken at the switch end. I talked to a couple dealerships (no real mechanic shops that I trust here), they told me it was a R&R of the steering column. I would really hate to track down an expensive used column and go through the fun of replacing mine if there is a simpler fix. So does anyone know if there is a simpler fix cause I am having a hell of a time finding anything on the internet about it.
