'00 WJ 4.7 - 55 MPH whine....

I'm hoping some WJ owners can give me some insight on this.

I picked up a '00 Grand Cherokee Ltd earlier this year (98k miles) and it has had a distinct driveline whine since the day I received it. It starts at about 50 MPH, is the loudest at 55, and seems to dissipate (or get drowned out by other noise) by 65 MPH. My wife seems to think the whine is coming from the front, loudest on the right side. I can't tell where it's coming from in the driver's seat.

I have opened up both diffs and could find no metal filings or other sign of unusual wear, and refilled with Amsoil 75W-140 synthetic. The only problem that I have not yet taken care of is an axle seal leak on the right rear wheel, which I plan on installing a new seal and wheel bearing. Has anyone heard of a bad wheel bearing causing a whine?

Advice from anyone who has dealt with this on their WJ would be much appreciated. TIA for any help and advice!

RE: 90 wrangler yj horsepower

Tires can whine like that. And they usually do it around certain "freeway" speeds.

What pressure are you running in them and what brand/model are they?
