I would also go with the T-18 or NP435 Ford transmission. Bolts right into AMC/Jeep engines, only need apapter for Dana 300. Plus they are easier to find MOSt Ford trucks use these trannies!

Did you have the two piece, AMC 20 rear? If so that "thick washer lookin thing" is the bearing retainer, it helps keep the pressed on bearing in place, yea you need that. Also, there is the seal/retainer plate that goes on the outside of the backing plate. This is what holds everything in...
