    Vacuum line Q re '79 CJ5 304/2100

I've got a '79 CJ5 with a 304 and an MC2100 and the PO left the vacuum lines a mess. I believe it's a CA model as well. I think I've got most sorted but I can't figure out where the intake manifold rear vacuum line goes. Can anyone shed some light?

    Rear seal (main)

You're right. It was. I couldn't tap mine out with a punch until I loosened the rest of the main caps on the crank. Then she came right out. I was following a write-up on the web that said you could get by without doing that, but it didn't work out that way for me, and at least now I know...

    Removing oil pan

Well, I went to a third manual and there is a note on the oil pan removal for the V8 that says that sometimes you have to take a hacksaw and cut some off the right engine mount to get it to clear. Interesting. Thanks all.

    Rear seal (main)

Hey guys, is the top part of the rear seal always rubber? Mine may be very old but it sure feels like metal, and it blunted the end of a brass drift, so I'm wondering if they are always rubber. My replacement is.

    Removing oil pan

I've got a '79 CJ5 with a 304 V8 and I want to replace the oil pan gaskets. Is there a trick to taking off the oil pan? I can't see a way to clear the right-hand side engine mount. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Starter removal '79 CJ5 304 V8

I have a '79 CJ5 with a 304 V8 and a couple of third-party manuals and I need to replace the starter. Manual just says to disconnect wires, remove mounting bolts, and pull starter. I've taken off the two obvious bolts but can't remove the starter. Any advice would be much appreciated. I...

    With or without Trac-Lok?

I'm confused about the Dana 44/Trac-Lok options on the Sport model. Am I to understand that the Dana 44 can be had with or without the Trac-Lok option? I've read a TJ FAQ and still can't understand what the advantages are of one option versus another. Can someone explain?

    Buying new Jeep

Hi Guys. Quick question regarding the purchase of a new (2006) Jeep: For a person who wants to buy new but doesn't need much more than a basic jeep for dirt/gravel roads through desert/mountain terrain, is a 4cyl SE sufficient, or are there capabilities in the X or Sport models that justify...

    2003 Wrangler SE

Thanks again for the input. In regards to the Rubicon, I don't have the 30K to play. My real choice is between a strippy new lower end model or a used one. On a side note, it doesn't seem to be possible to find a new one without a lot of options out where I am and I can't order at this point...

    2003 Wrangler SE

I'm looking for my first jeep and I'm not confident in my mechanical abilities so I'm looking at new ones versus an older fixer-up. Would the '03 SE make a good base vehicle for later mods? The new 4 cyl specs indicate it has substantially more hp than the old 2.5. Any advice would be...
