Loosen the nut facing the radiator and then turn the silver ine facing the camera. It is in a nut and when you teist it, it should push your belt tighter. Make sure there is not anoher bolt on top or behind that also needs to be loosened first, though

When you changed the booster, was the rod that goes through to the master from the pedal sitting correctly?

Is the hinge worn? One looks farther apart between the plates versus the other. But, i think you can adjust if you take the inside off the hatch door. I cannot remember where the adjustment is on the body side but if its not on the top under a cover, it must be under the headliner

Could very well be what happened

maybe the joint has just worn out. if you have one that is the chevy column, i know chevy columns get wear and become loose as they age. they get a good amount of side to side and up/down movement at the tilt joint

you had play in the steering column and that is why you are tearing it down? i think the cherokee columns, at least the earlier ones, were actually chevy steering columns. you might be able to find some info if you search that using chevy instead of jeep or cherokee

something is broken in it. you will just have to replace the latch assembly, or find out which part in it needs replacing

that is acceptable vacuum. so we are still at the point where the first pump of hte brakes is normal but all following require the pedal to go almost to the floor for the brakes to start working? the only similar issue i have had to that is on an 87 cherokee i used to own. it sat a long time...
