They are weld-in. You run the bead of weld along the flats. The current thread is 1/2-13. The wall thickness on these inserts is twice that of the factory inserts, so tapping different thread sizes will not be an issue.

You'll need a tool to prime the oil pump. You can make (or buy) an oil pump priming tool out of a distributor by removing the distributor gear, and putting the distributor shaft in a 3/8 drill. Pack the oil pump with Lubriplate #105 Engine Assembly Lube, or Vaseline before you prime it...

The 1990-down L.O. 4.0L's (87-90) use a different cylinder head/intake, and ECM than the 91-up HO 4.0L's. 91-up 4.0L intakes have raised intake runners. Depending on what head/intake you are using will determine what your next step is. I've seen H.O. motors use L.O. intakes/ECM's...
