Here is what I had to do on my 74' CJ-5..I also had 35's on it as well. Longer brake lines, shims front and rear ( for pinion angle ), front driveshaft was ok to reuse, rear driveshaft replaced with a cv type and I still dropped the t-case 1" to keep the shim thickness at a minimum.

The thick part of the shim faces the rear to tilt the pinion down. You may have already known that.

You then should have a least 2 degree shims under your leaf spring pads. Not sure if you already have them installed.

I am going to use a dual temp. fan switch to operate the high and low speed of the Ford Taurus 2- speed fan. The fan switch has a thread diameter of 22mm x 1.5. There really is no place to mount it except in line with the upper radiator hose. This is the way SAAB had done theirs. Good luck...

If your going to sell it I would only do what is needed. Clean it up, rebuild it and let someone else worry about trussing it.

You need to have the caster checked. To much will cause your Jeep to wonder. You should have around -5 degrees.

I had a 74 CJ-5 and I had a problem like yours. It turned out that the gauge was bad. But you stated that when you hit a bump it starts to work. That tells me you have a bad connection somewhere. Recheck your connection at the pump again and the ground.

Go with vacuum...

Just a thought. I'm not sure if you will be going through emissions, but you could use a stand alone distributer like a mallory unilite. It only requires one 12 volt wire to operate. The kit comes with a resistor to step down the 12v to around 9v. I have used this setup on my AMC 304 for years...
