id turn each of the nuts at the four corners of the base on the carb-intake mount enough to where the carb can be lifted off. then Id cut every hose and wire going to it, and using 100lbs of force, -rip it out of the engine bay, then whip it in the garbage can. install a new weber or motocraft...

i just did that this summer. steering was fine, no interference. be weary of the pitman arm issue, you will need to ream it, I did mine with a dril, die grinde - and trial and error fitment. It wasnt the smartest or efficient way, but it worked. the tiny slop I have is probably due to that.
