YJ BELT SQUEAL

i have an 88 yj 4.2. i just put a new alt, new battery, new serp belt on. After we start it, we get a very loud squeal that sounds like the belt. the noise seems to be loudest at the a/c compressor. well since the a/c didn't work, i grinded the clutch off of it and took out the internals so now it is just an "idle" pulley.. and the noise is still there.. any ideas what else it could be?[addsig]

Make sure you have the belt tightened enough. In my limited experience, belts squeal when they are slipping on a pulley. Best of luck fixin the problem![addsig]

mine did the same.... had to replace the actual idler pully with a bad bearing.[addsig]
