XJ Transmission Question

I know that this subject is far from a new one, but I have only had my XJ for just under a year now and I am asking everyone to chime in with good data if you would.

Can my 90 XJ's transmission, which I have been told by 2 builders is Toyota in design, be set in a mode to lock out the dreaded 1-2 upshift?

One builder thought that the speed sensor could be swithed out of the circut to keep it in 1st during descent and then turned back on once you hit the highway and would require stopping and restarting the engine for the computer to reset.

Yes, it can be done and I've seen write-ups, now to find them

Your transmission is an AW4 made by Aisin-Warner, yes it's Jap but one of the best auto trannies out there. Luckily the transmission has its own computer and the mods are plentiful as far as shifting and converter lock-up.
