Does anyone know the process for installing the axel shafts from a XJ front end into the front axel of the YJ to eliminate the vacume operated disconnect? I read about this swap somewhere and can not find it again. Any info is a help.

Thanks,

You'll need a different axle seal on the pass. side, it's inside the disconnect housing. That's it, I think.

The pass. side disconnect can be a good thing, allows me to run a locked front diff and disconnect the pass. side shaft for tight turns or running on the street.[addsig]

I chnaged the axle shaft U-joints in a late model XJ (98 I think) I had a couple of early XJ U-joints in the garage, that were a little smaller. No big deal (required an extra trip to the parts store) but nice to know the later model XJ´s used a slightly larger U-joint in front. The axles themselves appeared to be identical. Bigger is better, right?[addsig]

i got an xj shaft in my YJ. as you know it eliminates the need for the shifter motor....on mine the shifter fork is removed. the rest of the procedure consistes of taking the 3 12 point bolt out, taking the caliper and rotor off, and streering linkage. you dont need to take off the main axle bolt...its pretty striaght forward...all i need to finish this project is the axle seal, which is coming in tommorow. i drove around for a couple of weeks without the seal and it leaked like a sive..lol...oh yeah you might find you need to have your front drivshaft ballanced as it is going to be constently spining now.[addsig]

Don't mess with steering linkage, not necessary. My front driveshaft doesn't vibe at all, and it spins all the time now since the Lincoln Locker.[addsig]
