xj manual hubs

does anyone know if it is possible to go to a scrap yard and find the parts to convert to manual hubs on my 96 cherokee without paying 800.00 for the warn kit

Check Ford Bronco II for donor parts, don't know what all you need to make it work.

I have read about nightmares when trying to install parts from a Ford Ranger.

There's really no cheap way out there. You might want to check out Mile Marker's kit, it's a little less $$$ than Warn.

couple people in my local club recommend superwinch manual hubs over warn. worth checking out.

Less resistance, wear and tear on the road, the ability to unlock one side for tight tuns (for a locked axle)...

Manual hubs aren't that great in hardcore wheelin, flanges are much stronger.

The point of manual hubs is the option of freewheeling the tire right at the hub, to disconnect it so nothing else turns while onroad. Also very useful offroad when running a locker in the front, if you don't mind the exercise ;)

couldnt you find a older CJ with a dana 30 front and salvage the hubs, lockouts and whatever else you need.
