I am the proud owner oa a 2004 rubicon! My question has to do with what size,brand of winch would you consider for my jeep. I had a warn 8274 on a 1978 toyota landcruiser in the past. I realy liked that winch but it was very heavy. This jeep is also a daily driver so I think that I would like something a bit lighter. The more ideas the better.

Stick with Warn, but go with an M8000 or similar 8K winch with 80 to 100ft. of cable. You'll get the reliability you had with the 8274, with a lower profile and lighter winch.

I'd go with Ramsey. I talked to the manager of a shop that sells both, and he said he gets more Warn winches to replace parts on than he does Ramsey. With Warn you're paying extra for the name. They do that to make money from putting up ads everywhere, where as Ramsey doesn't do that much marketing, therefore lowering the cost of the winch.

Ramsey's are all good as long as you get the PRO series or Patriot. Their cheaper winches don't last to prolonged use. The swithces burn out and they will tell you that.
If you have got the dough to buy a Rubicon, I wouldn't degrade it with a bargain winch. Go ahead and put a Warn Thermometric on there. Be state of the art like your truck.

I've had the opposite in my shop. I have hade more problems with the Ramsey's then the Warn.

That doesn't mean much, who's to say that in his area there aren't very many Ramsey winches around, or that most hard wheelers know Warn is where it's at so there are more Warn winches used hard. Tough to base a decision based solely on that.

Look throughout the web and on the trail and you'll find Warn is the #1 recommended winch.

There is a reason you can buy factory rehabed winches directly from Ramsey, theres alot of them. I've never had a problem with the warn.

My brother in law has always had ramseys and swears by them, and I've had warns and my dad has a warn, and we love 'em. Only difference I can see is Ramsey's tend to be a little slower and a little cheaper. Don't think you will be dissapointed with either one, but as was said earlier, get a Pro series ramsey or an xd series warn........

I have seen some really good deals on the Warn M8000 lately. I think around $499 shipped (with a hawse fairlead). That's a good price on a winch that will do everything you need it to do! I say the smart money goes to the M8000.

I think Hummers (H1) come with Warn Winches, so I'd say that Warn is ready for those who plan on using the winch.-al

Don't mess with hydraulic winches, many stock pumps won't run them worth a darn. Get an electric, tried and true.

You won't be able to right yourself if you flop on your side cuz you can't run the engine.

A jeeper in our club bought a hydraulic and he was very disappointed.

That is why Warm is everywhere, b/c you can't read in any magazine or interenet site where Warn doesn't have an ad. I'm not saying Warn is a BAD winch, they're just overpriced, when you can get the same winch, pretty much, with Ramsey. And not all Hummers (H1) come with winches.

I think you could buy an american winch for that money that would give you plenty of pulling power.
Buy American, save jobs, and save having to be taxed for the employees who's jobs you saved.
