i blew the t case its a np242 and was wonderind if a 231 will work in place only because i have a 231 at my dads shop for free
and im cheep and dont like to spend money lol
paid 100$ for jeep as is 190000 on it leaks oil but runs good any way side tracking here i just would like to know if the 231 will work without too much modification if any
thanks to all

A 231 will work IF the input shafts between the two transfer cases are the same, as the length of shaft and spline count may vary. It'll vary between trannies used.

I have an extra 231 in the garage for when my 242 goes, but I also took the driveshafts with me, don´t know for sure, there may be a differnece in case lenght between the 242 and 231. Driveshafts may be a differnet length.

Have also heard there are two different spline counts and a difference in the adaptor between the YJ 231 (BA15 transmission) and the XJ automatic. Don´t really know for sure, I didn´t really research it much, I pulled my spare (and driveshafts) out of the same year and transmission XJ.
