I have a 1989 YJ, In line 6 cyl. engine. The starter makes noise like its trying to eat the flywheel somtimes when I am starting the engine. Not all the time , just some of the time. Well anyway, I ordered a starter off of Ebay, and it is about twice the diameter and does not have an external solinoid. I looked it up again, and I see both small starter with external solinoid and the bigger ford starter both offered for the in line 6 , 89 Jeep YJ. Whats the deal? Thanks

I guess I can answer my own question now! Ha I guess 1987 and before, takes the big starter. Anything after 87 takes the small starter. There is probably some overlap but that is the official answer from the company I bought the wrong starter from . Now I am trying to exchange one for the other, We will see. Thats what I love about jeeps, you learn somthing new about them every day. YOU GOTTA LOVEM HA Its still my little Hot Rod! Thanks
