Im running stock axles, D35 rear and D30 front with 4.10 gears. Im looking into a dana 44 swap for the rear and regearing 4.88. Any suggestions all you oldschool jeepers? thanks!!!!! Pricewise and where i should go?

There is always the XJ/MJ rear D44, but good luck finding one. A Ford 8.8" from one of their late model small sized trucks is a good choice too.

Some interesting swaps are to use a Scout II or SJ Jeep D44 with some aluminum spacers/adapters to make it match the front D30 in lug pattern. They are only 2" inches narrower, but the SJ has six lugs and the Scout uses the bigger 5x5.5" pattern as opposed to the YJs 5x4.5" pattern. Alot of Ford, AMC, and Chrysler cars used the same lug pattern as the YJ too. Some good axles came under some of those cars.

If all you want is a rearend, go w/ the 8.8. If you want to step up to f/r d44s put waggy fs one's in and buy new wheels. The added width is nice when wheelin. Plus you can always have the axles drilled to match any bolt pattern.

Rear Isuzu D44 and front Wagoneer D44 both have 6-lug wheel pattern and 4wheel disc brakes.

Otherwise go with a Ford 8.8 rear axle from a '95+ Explorer. Factory disc brakes and any 8.8 carrier can be regeared to 4.88, same lug pattern as your stock axles.
