upper shock mounts

Boomersxj

Well replacing the shocks on one of my xjs. Fronts easy but the back is a pain in the a%#. Tried punching them out didn't work. Upper nut welded better than expected. Then drilled out drivers side but the nuts are still welded to the unibody. Any ideas or hints? About to lose it.
Thanks

Hi
The nuts should be welded to the body. that how it came from the factory...
You have to remove the bolts, not the nuts.

If the xj is anything like the zj then you will have the bolt welded to the body and you just have to take the nut off for the top. For the bottom you will have to take out the nut and bolt. Rear socks only take about 5 minutes per side to do, at least thats how long mine took even with rusty bolts.

I did mine on a 90 xj. Pain in the ass. Just get a good air hammer and it will bust the nut right out of there. Use a piece of tie wire to fish new bolts through the top. Kind of hard to tighten but it gets the job done.
