Transporting vehicle across state lines...

Asking this for my brother, as I wasn't terribly sure about the answer...

Here's the scenario... He lives in Michigan. There's a vehicle down in Texas that he's thinking about buying. We really don't have the means to trailer it. Plan is that I'd drive him down to it, and then he'd drive it back. The question is, what do you do about registration, plates, and so on, when you're driving it cross-country? I seem to recall that there's a certain time period that you can drive a car without plates, if you're moving it from one place to another, could be mistaken on that. Figured someone on here would know.

Here in TN, if you are coming from out of state to purchase a vehicle from an individual, you have to stop at the local courthouse and get a temporary tag/registration to be able to drive it back to your home state. More less like a temp tag from a dealer, but you just have to go to the courthouse to get it.
