transmission id help

does anyone know where the id tag on manual trannies are? i have a 89 jeep xj.. im fairly sure its a ba10 but need to find a way to find out for sure. thanks for any help

The AX15 has a 1" thick intermediate plate between the front and rear case halves, meaning all seams run side to side. The Peugeot BA10/5 has side halves like a clamshell, meaning the seams run front to rear.

ok thank you!! is 450 for a used ba10 to much money? comes with a 90 warrenty. its the only one i been able to find around here.

Kinda high if you were buying from an individual, but prolly not so bad if it's from a yard.

yea it was from my local yard. it came with a 60 day warrenty to.. they showed 2 different ba10. a puegent and an aisin. are they alike? i got the puegent one.

The Aisin is the AX15 which replaced the Peugeot BA10/5. The AX15 is a much better transmission.
