i like the NV4500 swap i know you can get the set for TJ's with the atlas 2 and the transmission for a bolt in swap out .. ofcourse you have to have an extra 5 grand laying around haha  ... i was also upset when i was looking for an NV3550 rebuild kit nobody seems to offer one for some reason

I'm personally looking at doing the GM 700r4 swap. Mostly because I have one already built sittin in the garage and partially because I have visions of droppin a Chevy V-8 in the Jeep in the future. I've heard the NV4550 is a good way to go though too. I currently have the NV3550 5spd and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Big omission: the omnipotent T-18: short, cast iron, great Granny gear in some versions, what's not to love?

only problem i have with my NV3550 is anytime over 30MPH if you downshift it grinds and anything over 30MPHyou have to really ease it into gear on an upshift or it will grind i think its the syncros..... i had the 4L60E in my 01 Z28 its the electronic 700R4 and i loved it ... it performed great even with 400 ponies on tap
to the wheels it held up to drag launches and big smokey burnouts with no probs and aftermarket has alot of parts for them

I can't believe the th350 isnt in there... I've never even heard of the NV5600 being put into a rock crawling or offroad rig because of it's shear size. But they have my transmission in there :D

Reason why those weren't on there is they aren't commonly swapped transmissions. The ax-5 is worth nothin, but the ax-15 is a decent transmission. The nv3500 is being used in a lot of buggy's and stuff, so I suppose thats why it made the list.

If I had to replace my TF999, I'd probably stay with the automatic put a 4 speed AW4 in. It's a solid transmission behind the 4.0L.

How many guys are running the powerglide? A two speed transmission is not practical for anything but competition. But...
My buddy and I were talking about some of the benefits of the 3 speed Stak and 4 speed Atlas cases in the type of terrain we run. Both of us agreed that depending on the axle gears, a 3.8 and 4.3 are just right for wet trails where alot of throttle are required. Then it hit me that for a trail only rig it may be better to put all your gear choices in the transfer case rather than the transmission. I think he has decided that the next buggy out of his shop is going to get a Powerglide with either the 3 or 4 speed transfer case. It should be interesting.
