i figure you all probably know a bit more about this than i do......
a guy i know has a 1974 jeep CJ for sale.... he's asking 3500 for it, but says since he knows me, he'll give it to me for 3 grand. I haven't had a chance to check it over thoroughly yet, but just for starters, if it runs, is that a reasonable price for it? Also, when i look at it, what should i look for? :?
He told me that the clutch does something funny when its tweaked out.... any ideas what that could be? Any other advice, would be very helpful, and greatly appreciated!
thanks,
-W3Rd

first Welcome to you! second 3000 is a bunch of money for a jeep that old in my parts (east Tennessee) 3rd what does it mean to (that the clutch does something funny when its tweaked out.... ) that is a repalceable item for around 300 to 600 dollars depending on who you know. Search out the local dealers and or news papers for jeeps for sale and then make a good decision but unless the jeep is real nice it is too much mooney! Good luck and find out more and fill in the gaps for us. 4 6 or 8 cylinder 3 4 5 speed or what Stock or moded to death. any info will help. Luck again tug

ok, well a little bit more of what i DO know..... i do know he's got a bit of work into it..... its not beat up, its not rusting out from what i can tell. He's got fairly new paint, appears to be rattle canned from a distance, but its a camo type job.... wish i had a digital cam, i could shoot a few shots.....
it may have a small lift on it, as it appears to be sporting 32 x 10.50 thornbergs..... not sure about the engine or the transmission really, something im going to have to check out when i get a chance to stop.... I just happen to know where he lives, so i've driven by twice in the work truck ;)
I also know that its a soft top, he told me he's got a bikini top for it as well......
the thing with the clutch, he said something funny, thats about it...... i may have to tweak up on a fire hydrant down the street to see what he's talking about 8)

I cant really tell what the jeep is worth, ask him what kind of motor and transmission its got.If it is not a 4cyl and everything works, and it's clean,Id say it is worth 3 grand.Post some pics and get more info.

Also,welcome to jeepz.com.

2" body lift

yeah, we're gonna have to know some more about it... body condition, frame condition, motor, transmission, what's original, what's upgraded... etc...

$3K, for a 29yr old Jeep with a rattle can paint job and Thornterds, I mean Stuckbirds  Probably a lot of rust, you just can't see it for the bondo and rattle can paint. Pull any carpet and floormats and you may be looking at terra firma down there

You can get a sound YJ for $3000, and be starting with a more reliable vehicle.
