TJ Rear Corner Body Armor

I want them to be full sized, black and already cutout for LED's; also steel vs. aluminum with countersunk hardware. I'd prefer to keep them between $200-300. Any and all suggestions, links, testimonials and opinions welcome. I'm in a '04. Thanks!

Genright full steel corners $309 - http://www.genright.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=CNR2002

Smittybuilt full steel corners $250 - http://www.amazon.com/Smittybilt-76...sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318499198&sr=8-1-spell

TnT Competition cut $295 - http://www.tntcustoms.com/cornerarmor-compcuttj.aspx

Metalcloak - $299 - http://www.metalcloak.com/Jeep-Wrangler-Full-Corner-Guards-TJ-p/2432.htm

The metalcloak and TnT corners you'll have to buy the flares from them for them to fit, that will add another $300 +/-, Smittybuilts will add $160 +/-, Genright you can use about any flare you can fab to fit. The thing to watch for is weight, if your worried about it, steel is heavy, but aluminum is expensive. Good luck finding what fits your desires & budget.

Unfortunately, I have looked at all of those and I truly believe pretty much everything else out there before too. The problem is that they meet some of the requirements that I want, but are always missing one or two items. For instance, I'd probably just go with the Smittybuilt, but their hardware is not countersunk; rather just button head screws. Genright would have to be powder coated. TNT costs an additional $189 for powdercoating. Metalcloak mounting hardware is obtrusive and also not countersunk.

There of course are a lot of manufacturers out there. Well, honestly though, once you've started looking and have looked at all of them, maybe not as many as expected. At one time, I made myself a link to every single one of them and can't recall for sure, but I located somewhere between 20-30 of them. Long story short, it was always the same story, that they didn't meet all of the requirements from my original post.

Anyway, if anyone happens to know of some full sized rear corner body armor that offers all of the following, I welcome your replies...

1. Full Sized
2. 3/16" Cold Rolled Steel or stronger. Of course I'd be happy to consider aluminum, but that immediately drives up the price.
3. Black
4. LED Cutouts
5. Countersunk Hardware

I know that I can most likely easily find what I want for somewhere between $500-700, but would prefer to keep the cost between $200-300.

If by chance anyone out there has the Smittybuilt 76874, can you reply and let me know what you think of them. How was the install? Did you put your stock fender flares back on? Have you put them to the test and how have they held up? How is the button head hardware? Any type of review you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your replies and go tear it up out there!!!

the Smitty Built ones suck, the fit and finish is a disgrace.

as for metal cloak, it is purely my opinion, but they look goofy as all heck, the lines don't even come close to meshing well with factory jeep lines.

I've installed a bunch of these, mostly comp cuts, but your looking for full side non-comp cut.

Also, I would not bother with powder coating, I've never had good luck with it, especially on armor, it always rust on the edges and is a pain to try to repair. I suggest a good primer and quality spray paint. when you mash up the sides, a quick sanding to knock down the edges and then simple re-application of spray paint and good as new.

Lately I have really started to like the aluminum side, very light weight and just as durable.

here are my recomendations
Savvy Full Corner Armor

TJ Corner Guard 6061-T6 Aluminum Barnes4WD.com - Off Road Fabrication Parts

both aluminum and steel
Jeep TJ LJ Rear Corner Armor | Jeep TJ LJ Rear Fenders Flares | Poison Spyder Customs

Steel
TJ Standard Full Corner Guards

plus the ones you've already listed.

if they don't have LED cut outs, it's easy enough to just go buy a hole saw and drill your own holes.. your gonna have to drill the tub regardless to clear the back of the LED housing.

and you can pay a powder coat shop to do your armor for way cheaper then having the place your buying it from do it.

i had rims done for 40 bucks a rim. rims are a pain to powder coat properly because of the curves and the close radius in some spots. flat metal is so cheap to do.

shoot, a harbor freight powder coat kit is cheap too. we used one of those for tons of parts. and countersinking your own bolt holes is nothing but a drill bit away

Aluminum isnt as strong as steel without being thicker, otherwise cars would be made of aluminum, even DeLorean chose Stainless Steel. Smittybuilts are ok, not great, the powdercoating is pretty bad but I strip powder coating on armor as a rule, you can fix trail scarring with paint, you cant fix powder coat or gouges in aluminum. I wouldnt reccomend Savvy, there is some customer service issues with them lately, people getting stranded and cant get answers or parts, as far as counter sunk hardware goes, this is the easiest thing in the world to do, idealy with a cheap-o drill press from Harbor Frieght, you can with a steady hand use a normal drill and bolts from any hardware store. Tools are never a waste of money.

yup. countersinking is very easy and should not be something to stop you from getting whatever if it is not available. if your not comfortable using a normal dril bit to do your countersinking, you can buy the proper bit for it
