TJ front driveshaft options

My front drive shaft is toast... I found a used one for $145 but there is a semi shop down the road who makes driveshafts for about the same price (or so I've heard).
My questions are:
1- Does it NEED to be a CV shaft?
2- What benefit does a CV shaft have vs. a straight shaft?
3- What would you suggest between the two?

Cv shaft is a must in my eyes. Provides optimum driveline cancelation. No vibes. More travel. No bind. Etc. I can't think of one reason not to use one. Why not get yours rebuilt?

And theoretically it's not a cv shaft it's a double Cardon. Cv uses a totally different principal

The yoke for the u-joints in the "cardon" joint needs completely replaced... I have no idea how much it would be to get it fixed but I know $145 is a great price for a driveshaft

I buy rebuilts for that for a reputable driveline shop. I know new is pricey. The yoke is replaced when they rebuild it. Usually costs 45 bucks for a spicer one.

You need to stock with the original style double cardan driveshaft, switching to the cheaper single cardan style will cause a bad vibe.

What exactly is toast on yours? Usually cheaper to have rebuilt than to buy new.

You may want to check into this but, I read in jp magazine that cherekee front or rear shafts(dont remember which) can be used for the front of tjs
