i am have a winch and 4 X 100W light on my jeep and i am gonna install a electric fan and down the road a AC outlet. i was looking at a 136 amp alternator on ebay i can get it to my door for $70 i was wondering if someone could tell me if it wil fit my 2.5L. the alternator is from a
97 98 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP ALTERNATOR 136 AMP

i don't know, but the 1998 5.9L grand Cherokee alternator is the same price as that at the parts store and you 1. won't have to pay shipping, 2. can return it.

It is also a 136 amp alternator, I put one on my 94 4.0, other than a couple very simple mods, it is a bolt on deal. search 4.0 and 2.5" alternator part numbers, if they are the same, then it will fit.

thanks alot guys and if that is the p/n for my jeep then it will fit. where i live to the i only have carquest and napa auto parts. i am cheaper off getting it on ebay i think

The only thing that sucks about putting a bigger alt. on a TJ is that the voltage regulator is in the computer, which i think is dumb.

i was thinking the same thing about the altetrnator but i figured if it wasnt going to work then people wouldnt be installing a bigger alternator. i had a problem with my ATV one time that the the wire corroded off teh discharge side of my voltage regulator and she wasnt taking the voltage from my regulator and it overloaded and melted because off too much voltage.. i was just hoping that the jeep regulator was stronger haha or a different set up.. can someone answer if i would damage my voltage regulaor or is there any disadvantages of installing a 136amp alt from my stock 81 amp??? i am a marine engineer.. NOT a electrician haha

It regulates voltage, not amperage. Install the 136a, it'll work as intended. I ran an extra heavy gauge wire from the alt output to the pos side of the battery, but I run a 160a.

wow bounty where did you get a 160 amp alt? i like to have haha.. u can never have enough amperage and alot better on ur battery
