Teens mistake police for rival gang members
Two teen gang members were riding around the Planeview area Sunday night when they spotted an unfamiliar car.
Thinking it belonged to rival gang members, they decided to flash a little muscle.
They raced up beside the car in Planeview Park around 8:45 p.m., and the teen in the passenger's seat threateningly waved a club.
But the hunter quickly became the hunted: The car turned out to be police officers patrolling in an unmarked car.
The officers called in assistance, began a pursuit, and the teens were apprehended at Rutan and Ross Parkway, Capt. Ken Atnip said Monday.
The gang members, ages 15 and 16, were booked into jail on traffic offenses and two counts each of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.
Atnip summed up the caper tersely: "Not too bright."
