Strange XJ??????

I´m looking at a 91 XJ, thinking about buying. It has a strange layout in the engine compartment, I´ve never run across before. 4 ltr. I-6
There is an electrical box, next to a stock early air box and the drivers side fender. It has two multi pin connectors (like fifteen apiece) and that look like a post 91, computer connections. But it´s plugged up, to what looks like an aftermarket box (red) with the tags and ID washed or fallen off. I´ve seen a similiar computer position, but with another air box. And the computer laying flat on the drivers side fender.

The whole layout kinda looks like a work in process, kind of like a cross over model.

I read the factory production list, which wasn´t much help, it has an ABS installed, that isn´t even listed.

Anybody Iseen anything similiar?

the years between 89-90-91 were the big transition years for jeep ownership. i forget the exact details, but the guys at the local jeep dealer said they switched from daimler chrysler to jeep eagle to somethin' else or something like that. haha... my '90 model turns out to be the biggest FREAK of jeep cherokees out there. it has the LEAST amount of similarities amongst the other years. oh well. if i were you, i'd get a 92+ because it has the high output motor.[addsig]

i ran into a freak cherokee problem installing my deck, i went in to get a wiring harness and they kept giving me a 2 piece when i had a 1 piece. they looked it up on the computer like 4 times and had like half the staff over there trying to figure it out. they said they'd never seen a cherokee with a 1 piece and they thought someone had changed it even tho i had the factory tape deck in. eventually they figured out some sorta eagle chryster whatever thing, and sent me on my way with the right one, so id say theres some wierd wiring issues. if you take a pic of the bay i guess me and nate could compare it to ours' if that would help?[addsig]

I know what you mean. I own an '88 which I believe was the first model year that Chrysler produced. Only some replacement parts were made for this year and others have to be ordered for an '87. My Jeeps' Wire colors have rarely matched those in the Haynes Manual schematics. To top it all, They didn't even print a service manual for the '88s :-O  . [addsig]
