tearing apart and putting my 1st jeep back together( 1994 wrangler 5sp, 4 cyl). looking for a suggestion on what to buy for a steering stabilizer? this wont be a monster jeep, getting to camp on old gravel roads. any help will be appreciated
Hey Jim,
I've got a '93 YJ and put in a Black Diamond brand steering stabilizer. Nothing too fancy or over-the-top; it does its job with no complaints from me. Plus, it comes with a tapered sleeve to fit in the drag link bar, and the other necessary nuts and bolts. If you haven't already, check out the inventory of different suppliers. I've used Quadratec for a lot of my rebuild. Good luck to ya!
You know how they say you get what you pay for? Well that doesn't apply so much here. It does to an extent, but if you go to Carquest and get a brand new steering stabilizer, you're gonna be just as good as if you bought one that cost twice as much from Black Diamond or SkyJacker etc.
Just go to a parts store and ask them for a steering stabilizer for your year and model jeep. Name brand parts aren't much of an upgrade in this department.
I bought 3 different stabilizers for my 95 YJ from O'Reilly Auto Parts and none of them fit. The stud setup just wouldn't work on my Jeep and the old stud wouldn't work with any of the stabilizers. I ended up putting the old one back on.
