stalls problems continue

OK a couple of weeks ago I did a post about my jeep stalling while driving and how i was sometimes able to save it from stalling if I down shifted.

So the advise was to take a look at the trany solenoids or torque converter, so i took it to a shop and they could not find anything to explain the stalling.

any way today while driveing from work it startit to stall what i did notice was that if i took my foot of the gas it helped a litle.

what was weird was that when i steped on the gas the car would stay at idle speed, and then suddenly go and stop again.

so what can cause the engine to not accelarate it was like it.

i have anew fuel pump ( 6 months old )

thank you

You said you replaced the fuel pump but did you replace the filter. My neighbor has an XJ and it had the same probs. Took it to a shop and they replaced the pump, cat, plugs and wires etc but not the filter. I changed it for him and it runs like new.

yes i did change all the tings that you mention this is very old problem that goes away and comes back when it wants.

so i have even changed the ignition coil because i get the P0351 code,

yesterday i disconected the TPS and reved the engine and it does turn off, after i release the gas. but this does not happen if the TPS is conected.

thank you for the advise i will check for voltage leves on TPS this weekend.

Electrical problems that go away then come back and are intermittent are usually grounding problems in my experiance. Electronincs need a good, clean reference ground.

loose ground wire at the motor can cause this (and other weird problems electric related)
