I just installed a new weber carb on my 79 cj about a week ago since that day its has run perfect starts up on the cold mornings and idels with no problem.........but here we go again started it up this morning hit the gas 2-3 times turn the key and she fires right up, being it was in the mid twentys this morning i let it run for 5-6 minutes then headed for work which is only about a 10 mile ride well i get about a mile from work and stop at a stop street and it just cuts out......now I am having flash backs the the Carter BBD days

well i got it started but to do that I had to hold the throtlle to the floor and crank the hell out if it.... after it started it ran down the road perfect.....got around the corner from work did it again and had to do the same thing to get it running, so when i pulled into work and parked it it just stalled the same way...............whats up????? I thought maybe it the carb needs fine tuning, but it had been working flawless since i installed it..........This jeeps gonna drive me to drink

Is it a running rich or too lean also if you havent tuned and you took is strait out of the box check and see if the floats are sticking I would also look at the choke is manual of a vacume choke check the fittings off the manifold if that where it gets it vacume also what about the fuel pump is you weber the same size of biger than you previous fuel pumps can head south with no warning, and it may not have completely went south it may load up just enough when you holding it to the floor to start and run untill you bowls empty of the carb and then you have to start all over again, but if it was running like a champ till today the fuel pump would be my first guess

First of all the worst thing you can do to an engine is hold the gas down while cranking it. It could do damage to the engine. I had the same problem it would run great and after a while as soon as I slowed down or stopped it would stall. But it would always start right up but as soon as I let off the gas it would stall. After a couple of times it would run fine again no stalling. But I found out it was the choke. I would open the hood and open the choke it would run fine, I dismantled the electric choke and ran a throttle cable and made it a manual choke it hasn't stalled since. [addsig]

Your right Jay I didnt think holding the throttle to the floor to get it started was all that great for it.............but when your stopped in the middle of an intersection you gotta do what you gotta do.

All day I been wondering what the problem could be.....its a brand new Weber carb maybe the choke needs adjustment, just cant imagine how it ran great for 5 days then suddenly this problem pops up, I drove it around tonight and had no problems......I guess its part of life in Jeep country
