Slip yoke-- Bad??

Alright, I'm gonna do a t-case swap and have found a 231 in good shape. I now have the 249 with the slip yoke rear output. The 231 has a spline shaft. Question is-- is it wrth the trouble of building another drive shaft to make make the spline drive work. I'm running a 3" lift and haven't heard of anyone losing the slip yoke while playing on the trail. I'd rather find a 242 that'll accept the driveshaft that I have. I understand they were built into the YJ's that way. Any recomendations?

Not really following, let me give this a go. Most 231's in stock form have a slipyoke rear output similar to the 249. They are different lengths and the slipyokes may differ enough to require significant driveshaft mods.

Keep in mind that you will need to remove the input shaft from the 249 and put it in the 231 in order for it to bolt up, and hope that the input gear pattern correctly meshes with the planetary gearset.

I build a lot of 231's for swaps into Grands and Cherokees equipped with 249's, 247's, and 242's.

I picked the 231 up from a guy who builds jeeps, I didn't know they were also slip-yoked. I knew about having to swap the inputs. I found a couple other threads on the subject and it seems that as long as I stay at 3" of lift the slip yoke won't be a problem.

You can always have the driveshaft lengthened slightly, usually runs around $100 including a balance. You may need to shim the crossmember down slightly if you have any vibes.
