I did as the good folks told me to a long time ago and in a galaxy far far away here on Jeepz.com. I went to the bicycle shop bought some cable a thumb shifter and spen about 30 mins and now I have a great new mod. Rubicon express sell this item but who can afford it when you can build your own for less than ten bucks.

No more Heel and Toe work on the clutch and gas in a tight spot on a hill pullin out for me. Just throttle up with the thumb and one foot on the clutch and one on the break. It will also make for a good manual cruise control on the hwy.

I really do not now remember which member here first told me about this mod but Thank you all the same. tug[addsig]

You should do a write up about it, I have no idea how it would be done... help us out so we can do a mod like this![addsig]

the only thing(s) i wanna know is:

-where did you run it through the firewall?
-how did you attatch the end of the cable to the TB?[addsig]

PICS PICS and step by step Procedure. I have a serious problem of burning clutch smells when I am trying to slowly go over a rough obstacle. You know like when I am trying to straddle ruts that have been left by SOMETHING with 44s LOL. For some reason Stock Jeeps just can't run through Ruts that size LOL. and the pizza cutters seam to want to slide right into the middle of them. Glad I have a skidplate for my Transfercase.[addsig]

This is the way mine turned out on the shifter. I used an into the end mount handlebar Sun Tour Bicycle Shifter. I bought it for $5.00 at a local shop. then I cut off a piece of an old set of handlebars for a mounting tube. I used a mig welder to spot weld this to the shifter and keep it cool wth a spray bottle of water. It only took a couple of good spots to keep it on there as not that much pressure will be on it. The shifter just sets down inside the tube and you rotate the shifter about 1/2 a turn or less to set it in nice and tight.

Next you run the 6 foot cable through the shifter and slide it into the 5 foot cable houseing. I had these cut coustom and the best quality that they had. I think it was like another $5.00 I do not know for sure as I bought several other items that day and we just settled on a 25.00 price for all. Spray a light lithum greese on the cable as you feed it into the houseing to give a nice smooth movement.

Fish you cable out through the Shifter boot under the jeep and over the transmission to the drivers side of the fire wall and into the engin compartment, then route it over to the drivers side of the throttle body where the foot throttle is hooked up. There was a square hole there in the frame beside where the orginal throttle cable hooked up, so
at that point I used two flat steel fender washers about 1" with a small hole the same size as my .50 cent shifter cable adjuster form the same shop. I place a washer on either side of the square hole and placed the adjuster threaed end towards the throttle body and locked it in place with a nylon locking nut. Washers and nut 35 cents.

On my throttle body theere was a headed pin in place perfect for anchoring the cable end. I just got the houseing nice and tight and looped the cable around the existing pin set it nice and thight and crimped it into place with an electrial wireing crimp conector. cut off the extra cable and there it was. I set it nice and tight so when it streches it will have plenty of adjustment from the bicycle adjuster. There wa enough tension to cause it to idel slightly fast so I added a helper spring to pull it back to closed and it ideled fine.

The above is a close up of the shifter / throttle mounted. It is set in about a half throttle position there. the shifter will lift very ez and has resistance in the dow stroke so it stays where you put it. so if you are jumping off another car or truck you can set up you rmps and it will hold where you set it. Can also be used on the hwy. as a manual cruise control.

The above pic is of the under the hood end of the thing. It is so simple and it works so good. start to finish once I had the parts in hand 45 mins tops. I hope that this is a help if I have confused you please let me know and I will try to help you out. Tug :-D
