rims for a 96 cherokee sport

well I am considering some rims and tires for my jeep, but i dont know what is going to work. i dont know what any of the stock backspacing or offset are. the rims i am really looking at are the m/t classic 2 in a 15x8. my cherokee dosent have a lift or anything on it yet. but do plan for one in the future, just not right now.

I am also undecisive between two tires and hopefully someone can help me out here. I am loking at the m/t baja claw radials and the m/t baja belted radials. again no lifts and suspect the biggest tire i can fit is the 29x9.5? right? LOL. I am not going to do a whole lot of off-roading, but I am told that where i am headed (logan, Utah) gets snow packed on a regular. so either one has to have a good response to hydroplaing and I thnk either one will suite me good in the snow, but has to have a decent tread wear life, you know? The claws look like they are a little more aggressive and more for off roading then for the long hauls.

mud terrain/claw terrains aren't great for snow surprisingly enough
i don't live in a snowy climate
but ask some of the guys on this board who live in the snow and hey will tell you the exact tires to get
also if u get 29 in tires u will have little room for travel because your wheel wells will be filled up
it would be better to have 28's or 27's

i was told that i can put 30" on a stock cherokee and not have to many problems. I am currently runnign some 235/75/r15 bfg's street radials and thought they were pretty much the same as a 29" tire.

I do notice something weird and maybe somone can explain it in a litle more depth, but when the steering wheel is at full lock (left or right) it feels like the tire is running over its self. dose that make any sense to you guys? i dont think anything is rubbing but it feels like the tire is turring so far that it litterally runs it over.

The largest you can go without a lift is the 235/75R15 that you have now, which is equivalent to a 28" tall tire.

The only thing I can think of about you turning is the tire rubbing on the lower control arm. This can be prevented by adjusting the steering stops, which limits your turning radius. I wouldn't worry about it.

Don't get the MT for your type of driving, stick with an AT like the BFG AT.

ok I was looking on m/t site and the app chart said that for their baja belted 29x9.50-15LT the tire diameter is 28". what the hell is going on there? if it says it is a 29" tire then where did the inch go? (sorry i am new to this and dont know) jsut someting that cought my attention.

and to be honest the main reason i want to go with the M/T's is because of the tread design. it seems like it would do pretty good as a/t. I dont really like the look of bfg's. and what i have on there now is a street radial, t/a i think.nothing to do with offroading LOL. more for muslce cars.

the type of driving i mostly do is street, but you have that snow storm that comes in and i dont want to get stuck. but then when i go off road i want something that isnt going to let me down. something that will grab anything it can. that is why i was looknig at the claws, but they dont look much like a street tire. sometihng a little more serious off roading.
I have even been looking at the ssr from super swamper. I am open to ideas.

about that tire rubbing thing, it might also be rubbing on the sway bar link, on mine if you look behind the tire it looks like i have a chromed swaybar or something.

right now there is snow and ice and crap al over the ground, so it wil probably be a little while before i can get underneith it to check out if the tire is rubbing the sway bar or tie rod. and my berette is stuck in front of my shop so i cant get into it! LOL. I am really glad now that i have 4 HI. what a difference two more wheels spinning make! LOL

about the rims, what are the factory specs for offset and backspacing for the cherokees? and would a 8" wide rim fit under there ok?

and one more thing dose anyone have any experience with the M/T baja belted radials? if so please let me know of the pros and cons. thanks
