With the spring fast approaching and the itching to take the top off growing stronger, learning how to guard agaisnt theft with no top is becoming a concern.
I am wondering how reliable the stock locks are for the glove box and the center console?
Im going to be putting in a cd player soon with a detachable face...will that be safe locked up in the glove or console?
Any experiene with these being ripped open easy, or not trusting them?[addsig]

Get some tuffy lockboxes I have the ones over the rear wheel well. Speaker and lock box combined. They also sell glove boxes that replace the OEM one. I'm looking into buying a trail cover and just throwing that on while I'm parked at a store or whatever.[addsig]

No the stock locks can be popped with a screw driver! You should look into security consoles or glove box safe at Quadratec. They are a little expensive but if you like every other jeeper and have your top off all the time they are worth it.[addsig]

Well, as they say, the locks only as good as long as the person who's trying to get into the box isn't THAT serious about it.

Truthfully, the Tuffy products have, from my experience, been some of the more reliable set-ups as opposed to many of the other after market add-ons.

Short of completely armor plating your Jeep a-la M-1 Abrams main battle tank, the biggest solution I would offer would be to get an under hood box (that locks) and then getting a locking hood catch. Old theory abounds there... "out of sight? out of mind." In other words if they can't see the box they won't be tempted to try to see what's in it.

Good luck

When I bought my first 94 YJ, it had the factory console in it, and in my old truck, you just had to lift the lid to open the console. well, on the way home from the dealership, I just pulled up on the console and it opened. I did this for about a month till some one showed me that the console was locked and you hade to press the lock in to release the lid properly.

I carry a small day pack most everywhere I go in the summer time. Put you face plate, Keys, Pistol, Sun glasses, CD folder, and any thing else that is loose in there with you. Now you have it with you and it is safe. If you need an item then there it is not left out in the Jeep. My Stereo has a flip face that closes up whene the power is cut. Looks like a filler plate rather than a stereo. Most people are like I did not know you had a stereo when I hit the power and it unfolds. Perfect for open top parking. Tug[addsig]

jay89, are you saying that the stock locks pop off or the tuffy box locks can be pried off? I bought a tuffy console and its made as well as my rig. Five stars, pricey but worth it.

As for the locks only keeping the honest people honest, do you lock your house when you leave for the day?
