rearend problem

on my 92 XJ 4x4 when you come to a stop sometimes the rear end makes a noise like its lurching forward. This happens only on more sudden/hard stops.

What could be the cause of this? at first i thought it was the u-joints but there is no play in the drive shaft. I have also just changed the rear diff fluid. Thanks in advance for any help.

Are the rear brakes locking up for whatever reason?

no.. just the rear end sounds like its shifting under harder braking.

Is there a bracket, bolt or something that commonly goes cauing such sounds?

check the leaf spring bushings... if they are sloppy, the whole rear end could be shifting..... also check the shocks/mounts.

Its your slip yoke on the rear drive shaft, take off the cover and re-grease with a industrial motor grease. It sticks together under hard braking.

Give it a try

I have the same thing. Happens ONCE in a WHILE for me. But, my dad's 1996 is evident EVERY time you brake.
Would be interested in a 100% fix on this.
