Rear Hatch will not open & Rear Drivers Side Door Will Not Open

I'm New to 4X4s and to Jeeps..and also New to this Forum. I'm Retired and always wanted a 4x4..so bought a older
used one..1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L 4 Dr/4X4..to haul the grandkids around and do some off roading.
The lady who I bought it from stated that the Hatch and Rear Door(1) will not open..I tryed them..No Luck!
What do I need to do to gain excess through the Hatch and rear Door to get them open to repair or replace
whatever is broken or damaged?? All info will be helpful!

first question is what happens when the handles are pulled with the door locks in both positions...

The lift gate - can you hear the lock switch activating the liftgate latch?
