ok so i ordered a 4" RE lift for my yj, comes with the doestch shocks, think i spelled it right, anyways doesn't come with boots. Checked one website and said not to used boots b/c of moisture and stuff getting inside, but offroading would get mud and gunk in there i would think....so i ordered a set of boots anyways...So my question is, should i put them on or not???

Got my first package today, one of five, can't wait to get this one there and go offraoding and tear some stuff up!!

Driveshaft Woohs!

The boots protect the shaft from scratches and nicks. They do manage to hold mud, moisture and whatever else you drive through. I cut a 1/2" x 1/4" slot off of the bottom ring of the boot to allow for drainage

I don't care for them... i think its more a matter of preference or looks. and shocks DO have a seal, and are designed with that in mind, the seal is made to clean the piston as it travels inward

I don't run with the boots, mainly because all I do is mud and water. Also, if you have a TJ, the exhaust on the rear passenger side runs so close to the shock, that it will melt the boot anyway, making for a most unplesent smell in your Jeep.

Rob 8) :P :)

I have a YJ so I assume I will be cool with putting them on right?? you said only TJ have that problem, right?

Just a suggestion, don't put the little zip tie on the lower end of the boot, that should keep it from holding any water, and it will make it easy to make sure they're not caked full of mud after hard wheeling. Works for me.
