Problem with gas meter? 2000 Jeep Wrangler

I recently bought a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. The gas gauge read that it was on empty so I filled it up & the gas meter went up. But, 15 miles later my gas light popped on! I drove about 10 more miles, & it finally went up to just under 3/4ths tank. & it hasn't moved from there & I've gone at least 40 miles. I've read that this is just "Jeep Life" has anyone had this happen to them or know what might be wrong? Thanks so much

Yes mine does this too. There is a dead spot in the float resistance. When full and the float is on this spot it reads zero and shows zero level gas. Once the float leaves this area it will read correctly. You could live with it or change the pump and float in the tank. You may see a CEL due to this.
