Offroading in Cloudcroft NM, where to go?

After last fall's trip to the San Juan's in the Durango-Silverton area in Colorado, I am dying to get out and go high-altitude wheeling again soon.
I am planning on going to Cloudcroft NM and I have found alot of neat things online about the area, there are some references to off roading but I need more info before I make plans. Do any of you know more about the area?

Mingez, you were not too far from there I think.

Oh, I see NOWWWWWwwwwWWW you go to NM, after I left. Yeah, I used to go to Ruidoso and Cloudcroft quite often! It's BEAUTIFUL there.

It's about 1.5 hours from Las Cruces. Fishing and Camping, is AWESOME, but I haven't done much wheeling around there, because there were so many trails in and around LC. When I went up to Cloudcroft, it was specifically as a camper, hunter, or fisherman.

One thing to look at is the Las Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club site.
Here: http://lascrucesfourwheeldriveclub.com/

They would surely be able to give you some advice, as they have much more experience than I.

Another suggestion is to search using the Keyword "Ruidoso" instead of Cloudcroft. It's bigger in population, and just around the corner.

Here is a website to Ruidoso. http://www.ruidoso.net/
Try the visitor services link and give them a call or an email.

(BTW White Sands is an hour away too!!!)
