I've been getting a 'whirring' noise coming from the gearbox area on my car. (2004 wrangler sport.) I've done 98,000 miles and had it sevriced periodically, When the cluth is depressed it completely goes away. As the clutch is release you can here the transmission begin to spin and the noise returns. If you press the clutch back the noise stops as the transmission stops rotating. the sounds like a bearing spinning but it doesn't sound normal. This has been around since a month and I was told at that 'its a wrangler'.

Bad throwout bearing, go ahead and replace the clutch while you're at it.
