New Jeeper...

I want to cause my brother harm now, because I am JUST THAT JEALOUS!!!

Not that I don't love my little Jeepy, but he's now the proud owner of a 1986 AMC-Jeep Grand Wagoneer, chocolate brown with sparkles, original woodgrain, and a neglagable amount of rust, really, it's in freaking mint condition for it's age and the state that it's in...

lucky little gentle lady...

360 V8 that is running perfectly, carb is healthy, all is well with it... But the speedometer is not working... I have never experienced this problem, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I need to start looking, and what for to trace this problem, so we can get it working?

Anyway, just thought I'd share, he might be joining up Jeepz soon...

Guess I gave him the bug.

dumb question about a soft top...

I bet that Waggy would look great sitting on 35's ;)

Check the cable from the speedo to the transfer case, or see if there is one even there. Make sure its not rusted solid or broken. Assuming it is like a CJ of the same era, you could disconnect it from the back of the speedo and watch it while you drive to see if its moving. That would tell you if its the speedo or the cable/tcase.

WTB 92 or newer wrangler roll bar

Cable? Oooh... That's like a wire that moves, if I recall my history classes

JK, of course... Do you know where in the transfer case it hooks up? There's a double wire coming off the body of it, didn't look too closely though, was inspecting for rusted out parts of the frame, yeah, there's none... I would just like to know what I'm looking for...

look for a big thick cable looking thing (actuall speedo cable is inside of this "cover" so it's protected) going to either the transmission or the t-case. It should be pretty obvious...it's usually something like 1/4" or so thick, and black.

By the way, a neighbor of mine (moved in about 3 months ago) has pretty much the exact same rig...'86 Grand Wagoneer with a 360. That reminds me, maybe I can sneek over and take a look for his speedo cable, when he gets home.
