Hello;

I will need to replace my gas tank this spring once it warms up here in PA. I am wanting any suggestions about replacing the gas tank.

Should I replace the fuel pump, fuel lines, while I have the tank dropped and replace etc.........

I also found this tank online and would welcome comments or other suggestions.

I do some normal off road with my YJ 89 but nothing extreme.

Nice to have the extra fuel capacity but being an oversized tank there are a few things that will need to be done to use this tank. I didn’t see if you have an I4 or I6 motor. If you have an I4 it is fuel injected with the pump in the tank so the factory length of the pump will be too short to reach to the bottom of the oversized tank. You will need a longer pump. If you have an I6 the 1989 was still carbureted so you have a mechanical pump out side of the tank however you still need to install a longer pick up in order to use the fuel in the bottom part of the tank. Also you will need a different/modified skid plate to accommodate the larger tank. This is going to cost you more than the price of the tank alone.

As a general rule whenever you drop a fuel tank for any reason do a through inspection of the hoses looking for cracking or other signs of aging and replace what needs to be replaced depending up what you find. Twenty year old rubber tends to have seen better days so if you have the money in the piggy to freshen up the lines while you are already there it just makes good sense to do it.
