More horsepower less cash...

62 cj5 with the stock 134ci engine, 1bbl carb t90 3spd(Savin for the OD unit) I need inexpensive ideas for more horsepower such as possibly upgrading the carb to a 2 bbl? Or maybe big gauge plug wires? I dunno, I'm a closet mechanic an have yet to use my full potential...any and all input is greatly appreciated

what is your displacement in liters? can you put a 32/36 on it? a 32/36 is a good carb for lots of engines but especially small 4 cylinders.

larger wires will make it idle better and run a bit smoother. won't get you any power you will feel byt will probably improve mileage and improve the idle and smoothness. you will probably have to do lots of very little upgrades to feel anything, or put a 6 cylinder in. i like to stay with the original displacement and just adapt my driving style to this

Not sure on displacement I'm guessing at 1.8 or maybe a 2.2 hurricane? Again
I pick up the owners bible on the porcelain throne and it's got grease on it. Mainly on the t case pages. As for carbs what brand? Weber Holley? I also want to get rid of the oil-pan air filter any thoughts on a replacement?

Dude throw a turbo on there haha. But seriously, you could get a 4bbl intake manifold, 4bbl edelbrock carb. That will really get you some good hp. But if you want something cheaper put hooker headers on and a magnaflow cat back. Also, you might want to lol at getting hei.

Oh, and ditch the mechanical fan and put on an electric one

Google it man, you'll get lots of stuff

weber makes a very good carb. the 32/36 progressive is a very good small carb. i have a 34/34 on my 87 with 4.0. its ok, it works good but it feels small for this engine but from what i have read, its the right size. for you, i would say a 32/36 but do some googling to find what people say is the best though

Weber redline? 282.95$ seems nice then it says I also need a fuel pressure regulator....what's next?

you will need a carb and the adapter kit and a the pressure regulator (only if your pump puts out more then 3.5-4.0 psi. i always put a pressure gauge on my lines when i ran a regulator so i could verify that the regulator was working properly but since your jeep was previously carb'd, you might not need the regulator)

first is make sure your engine is being all it can be.
fresh valves can do spunky wonders for compression.
...maybe oversize pistons to increase displacement

after that it's get the air in and out efficiently with open pipes and a thirsty carb

after that it's force more intake thru with a pump.

a shot of nitrous will perk it way up

smaller tires lower the ratios if you don't need 100mph top speed.
