My front D30 is leaking around the drive shaft. Can I replace the oil seal from the rear or do I have to replace it from inside? Either way, what tool is neede to reove the seal?
Unbolt the driveshaft from the D30 yoke
Unbolt and remove the yoke
Pry out the old pinion seal
Install the new pinion seal with a little RTV where the seal sits in the housing (Helps sometimes to put the seal in the freezer for a few minutes before installing)
Clean the seal up, it should have some really small numbers on it that the part's store can use to cross-reference and get you the correct new seal.
ite really easy i just did mine 2 days ago, get your self a 1 3/16 socket, and a torque wrench, take off the yolk and pry out the old seal, i wouldnt use silicone i would tap the new seal in either a little farther or leave it out alittle, when u get the yolk off look for a grove from the old seal, just when u install the new seal make sure the seal isnt riding on that grove..
I don't use RTV on the rubber surface of the seal, but on the metal outside where it goes into the diff housing. Makes it go in easier, and keeps anything from getting past the outside of the seal.
