Jeep workshop in Kent?

Hi, I'm new to the world of Jeeps, and so far not had much luck.
I bought what seemed a good N-plate 2.5TD Cherokee back in February.
So far, it's had a new turbo, and half a day spent getting the electric windows to work again.

Last week while up in the Yorkshire Dales, it emptied it's coolant into the engine via the head gasket (or a head crack?) and came home to Sevenoaks courtesy of the RAC :(

Unsure what to do, I bought a cheap LWB Vitara (courtesy of Nat West) at the weekend with a view to cutting my losses and getting rid of the Jeep. However, all this has done has confirmed how attached we've become to the Jeep. So, I should have a Vitara available soon.

With limited knowledge of Diesels and/or 4x4s (up to now been bikes and VWs), does anybody know somebody based in North Kent or thereabouts who may be able to help me out with sorting the head, and checking over the rest of the Jeep to prevent any more disasters?

Clearly these cars have an amazing appeal. Never before has my wife felt attached to a car (even the VWs), but she is desperate to get her Jeep back :-)

What country are you in?

Welcome to jeepz.com and congrats on owning a TD jeep, many in the states wish they were available here.

Hi,
I'm in South East England.
I posted the thread in a rush yesterday, and then looked through the site later, and realised that it is a US site:roll:

There seems to be no on-line chat and tech help in the UK (unlike the VW world), which is a pity, as there is no shortage of Cherokees over here.

The 4.0L petrol can be picked up for peanuts (under £1K) because of the huge taxation on fuel. Diesels can get 2 or 3 times the amount, as they're far more rare, and a great deal cheaper to run.

Everybody I've spoken to is amazed that I've had any engine problems at all, as they are supposed to be bullet proof, and just suffer from electrical faults and rear axle problems due to leaving them in 4 wheel drive on the roads.

We love the thing though - so it WILL get sorted.

Cheers

Mick

Why? when the diesel is so much cheaper to run over there, and more sought after.

The diesel is great - fantastic kick up the backside when the turbo kicks in 2500 revs, and it'll climb up anything (sounds really agricultural though);)

Not in Kent but Mansfield 4x4 in Manningtree essex is good and reasonable cost too.

I am in London UK

Blimey - thanks for that, I've just signed up with them, and will drop in there next time I'm over there.

Unfortunately, I've just had the head gaskets replaced at huge expense by a regular engine shop, and it came back with a Diesel leak, and an issue with the brake servo!!

Cheers

Mick
