Instrument cluster on a 99 XJ - Interesting question

I have a 99 XJ 5-speed. However, the instrument cluster only has the speedo and fuel gauge, plus 4 dummy lights. Does anyone know if I can swap it for an XJ or TJ cluster that has all the needle gauges like temp, tach and so forth? Is the mileage hard-coded elsewhere?

Thanks!

Hi,

I know that in the pre '96 model year cherokees the instrument cluster with the idiot lights could be replaced with an all-gauge style instrument cluster fairly easily (though some of the sensors have to be replaced).

I'd assume the same could be done for the newer cherokees as well, but you'd likely need the instrument cluster for the cherokee (as the TJ dash may be wired differently).

As for the odometer, its setting is stored in the instrument cluster circuitry, so you'll have to have the new instrument cluster programmed to match. There are shops around that specialize in instrument cluster repair/programming.

im gonna hijack his post right here, on my instrument panel i have the main gauges, then on the left a little panel that has like the check engine light, battery, etc, on the right i have an identical panel, that has nothing... should there be something there? my friend suggested it might be one of those little diagrams of the jeep showing all 4 tires green until one blows out or something. i have the sport package, so is that why nothing is there? if it was nicer would something be there?
