I'm a new jeep owner. Actually this is my first car. I have a '93 YJ base Wrangler. I got it from the only owner but it was neglected. It still runs but needs alot of TLC. Is there anything I should watch out for. Also is there anything cheap I can do to dress it up military style? thanks for all your help. I'll be here often I'm sure.

Start by not calling it a car  No big deal, just razzing you before somebody else does. Welcome to jeepz.com and to jeeping, hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

What color did you get? Manual or auto? Engine size?

I'd start by changing the manual transmission oil out, put in Redline MT90 or Penzoil Synchromesh. It's really worth it, as the stuff Jeep recommended in the owner's manuals is corrosive to the brass synchronizers and your transmission won't last long if it's in there now.

Also check out the black spoke rims if you want the subdued look, they're only about $40 a rim.

Again, Welcome.[addsig]

Good advice, at least i won't get busted for callin it a car anymore. My jeep's white. It's a base '93 with the 4.0 6 banger in it. It's an auto. I need to change the trans fluid anyway so ill make sure to use one of the two. Thanx.

I was mentioning those two lubes for manual trannies, don't use them in your auto. Use the recommended ATF, I THINK DC got that one right  [addsig]

I would also recomend that you change out the differential fluids never know if they went sub racing before you got it....lol
While your down there a complete under carraige instepction...shocks, brake lines, stops and stuff. Replacing any thing that looks like it will fall off right then and going down the list when the cash is available.
If it looks like they have been fishing with the jeep without a boat repacking the bearings might be a good idea as well. A few hours and a few bucks will save you bundles later on down the road.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Jeeps.
