Il-6 upgrade

Hay guys. I’ve been looking around on the net to find some info on an engine swap and am wondering before i go ahead with it to get some other insight from fellow jeepers. What I’m looking to do is put a newer inline six motor from the 91-95 High Output era and putting it into my 73 CJ-5 rebuild. As i said i haven’t run across anyone who’s is doing this for their jeep. The benefits of having this motor over the old inline 6 are really what I’m looking for. power steering, no carb fiddling and power brakes but more wiring, the computer, and having to fab brackets for these things but would like some input on what everyone thinks. I’m at the phase right now where in about done with the axels and am now looking at putting in the motor and drivelineas ill show you in a pic ill post. Like i said any insight would be greatly helpful. Thanks guys

It's a good idea. The wiring is all stand alone in the 92-94. Not sure about 95 so that makes for an easy swap just need a fuel pump and lines for the higher pressures. Etc etc. I think it would be a sweet swap.

I have seen this done a few times..
personally I would not do a inline six if I was going for newer engine.. I would put chevy 4.3 in..
The Chevy TBI is real easy to hookup!

A couple of things about your reasons for a new engine! You said power steering and power brakes!! YOu can put this on any rig and any engine.. The engine has nothing to do with these componants..it drives them.
A 4.0 need a adapter at the bell housing for the flywheel sensor or you need to fab a way to install it (4.3 does not).
You will need to change motor mounts.
You will need to put the fuel pump in the tank! Yes you can use a inline electric but I have never seen this setup work correctly!

I have a 94 donor Cherokee that i picked up for real cheap. $200 but the ass end is smashed. Unibody is messed up and the body buckled but it runs and drives fine. It looks like someone took a sledge hammer all the way across the top of the body and smashed i line all the way across. As for Trans the manual 5 speed works great and the 4wd is all in working order. I fell that a Chevy swap would be nice but i see a lot of jeeps that way and i fell that you just can’t kill the inline 6. The jeep that i had before i ran out of coolant and it still went like a tank granted that it ticked like crazy. But i drove it for 4 years like that and ended up selling it that way. Again I’m not trying to put down your idea because i would like to do that to a jeep in the future. Something in the lines of an FSJ with that Chevy motor would really give it the power i want. Thanks for the help guys.
