How replace brushes on alternator, ZJ/4L ?

Z3? As in BMW? No ideas. Totally different alternator than used in Jeeps. Landrover did use them for a minute or 2 (4 months between '99 and '00 model years then Ford bought in)

what year? Don't know of any sites yet, but I did the ones in my '93 ZJ 4.0L swapped into my '83 J10. (I have since discovered I need the harness from an XJ to make it work)

First off you have to figure out what alternator you have. Likely the Nippon Denso, should be a tag on there somewhere.

Thanks for the link to the very nice posting of the brush & bearing replacement. At this point I think I will spring for $114 for a rebuilt unit from Autozone, lifetime warranty. Holy cow, I can't believe that Jeep couldn't have made the brushes more accessible--without having to crack the housing. I have the shop manual which I bought way back in '92 when I bought my ZJ, and it states, "The generator is not serviceable." I like the old days, when the brushes were readily accessible. Oh well, such is life. But, make no mistake, I apprecieate your help in this matter. Thanks.
