Household AC

Just curious............and I figure we could make a 20 page thread about this..........but, as y'all know, I'm currently in Southern Louisiana (about 30 mi. N of Baton Rouge) and am staying in an apartment that my company rents (for "staffers"). I've got the AC set to 82 and it is VERY comfortable to me (after sweltering in the heat of the day - 105+ heat index). I've never really cared that much for AC - prefer the windows open and fans going. I was just wondering what the rest of the Jeepzer's bodies could tolerate.

comfy at 80,
mud

this punk is happy at 72F but I can tolerate 80... but I prefer snow... You can always put more clothes on but you can only take so much off before the cops are called :D

We keep ours a 79 and use one of those big tower fans that moves the air around pretty good, plus our ceiling fans.
We are pretty comfy, but if the stinking electricty wasn't twice what we were paying 3 years ago, we would have it around 76 or so.

73 here during the evening and times that I'm here, during the day it goes up to 75. Got one of the programmable thermostats.

personally i'm super cold blooded and need it hot.. now i do know i live in b.c canada so it doesnt usually get too super hot. but we did have a heat wave last week and i used a fan. if i could have gone to the lake i would have been happy as a clam but i was looking after my neighbor all weekend so oh well.

74-76 when I'm here, 80 when I'm not, and at night. Sunshine would prefer 85 when she's here, 90 when she's here and sleeping.....

I'd let her keep it at 80, but the meds I take make me sweat at anything over 75, and I mean really, really sweat. Plus, we've kinda come to an agreement: I can keep it as cool as I like in the summer and I pay the electric bills. She can keep it as warm as she wants in the winter, and she pays the gas bills. Many times in the winter, you'll find me sitting on the porch swing trying to cool down because she's got it so hot inside. She sleeps under an electric blanket and big comforter in the summer (at 80 degrees), and uses 3 blankets (one electric) and the comforter in the winter. I sleep in my skivvies with nothing over me and the ceiling fan on all year.

The A/C is always at 72 when I am home. My wife turns it up to 76 when I'm not, and I often call on my way home requesting it be changed to 72.

I work in the heat all day, and having been born in New England I like the colder temps.

I'm not much for heat in the winter. I like a nice toasty woodstove, but hate forced hot air heat.

I'm never home anymore but my thermostat is set to 78 upstairs. Usually sleep under 2 heavy blankets in the summer. Winter we leave the heat down(72ish) and just use electric blankets with the high gas bills and all. My rich aunt got this pretty cool contraption in her backyard though. Kinda looks like a big steaming shed but it's really a big oven type thing that takes only 4 logs a day and it provides unlimited hot air and water for your house(i hang out there alot). I even think she has her pool hooked up to it. Her last gas bill was 17 dollars. This coincidentally is also the same aunt that has 2 mudding trucks, is rebuilding the engine in a '83 toyota for a 3rd, and is looking for a jeep to replace th cj5 sitting on 35's that her ex-hubby flipped on an off-ramp. Not to remention the 5 muscle cars. I wish i had money. I'm gonna go turn the air down a little, i got myself all heated up wishing i was rich.

The power here is 50% cheaper between 9pm and 9am so I run it at 72 between those hours and then 77 during the day. I like it as cold as I can afford  which keeps getting warmer these days.

I live in Central Texas and they have the nerve to call it the "Heart of Texas" which they don't spell it out, they only used HOT, well, being here I never think of it meaning Heart of texas only Damn HOT! I keep my air down at 72 or 71 at night and my wife turns it up to 78 or so every chance she gets. I wait til she falls asleep to turn it back down. I'm from Texas and she is from Hawaii so she doesn't like it cold. I do. My last electric bill was 250 which is bad since last year it was running in the 3-400 range.

Me too!

I usually leave it at 75. But, I can go a ways in either direction.

After working all day in the heat I love it nice and cold when I get home though.

We usually see 110 in Fresno during the summer months. At that point the A/C is always on and usually set between 73-78. If we're not home we crank it up to 82-85. I'm a big fan of winter though since I'm always warm enough. We just turn the heater on in the mornings to cut the chill a little.

Although, having been over here for the last few weeks of 120-130's, the temperatures at home don't seem nearly that hot and I actually long for 110! :purple:

No air in the house, at least, not till very recently. My buddy is moving to Hawaii for grad school, and sold me his air conditioner, it's one of those portable ones with the vent hose that goes out the window... So my room now has air. Since I put it in, I can actually sleep WITHOUT tossing and turning all night, and I'm not waking up anywhere near as dehydrated as I have been, so in turn, I feel a heck of a lot better during the day.

Personally, I am happy between 60 and 75 degrees. Any hotter than that, and I am uncomfortable. Colder than that, we're getting into the coat range, it's short sleeves anything after 65. The unit in my room is set to 75, according to it's thermostat, not sure how accurate it is, but the simple act of taking the humidity out of the air makes a world of difference. Because of the Great Lakes, after all, Michigan is a VERY humid state, one of those things that you just don't notice 'cause you live here, but it's everpresent. It's nice, after working outdoors in the hot sun, then in the hot kitchen (and the air is broken again), to come home and cool off a little.

We're under a severe weather warning for high humidity and heat right now through Tuesday... Glad I have it.

We keep ours at 77 day and night when we are there and bump it up a few degrees when we leave the house. I don't see how you guys live in it with it any cooler. If we move it down to 76 we are both getting cold. Many days here at work I have to work in the server room and it stays at 68 degrees. I'll either turn off one of the two a/c units or put on my light jacket that I keep in there.
