I have a 1996 xj classic. The gen light came on so i had the alternator tested on the bench at advance and the battery tested too . Both passed flying colors . All wires and connections good too . If it is the ecm , can i install one from another jeep that has the same computer without having it flashed ?

bad ground will cause gen light to come on
dirty/corroded battery terminals
loose belt/slipping
I have had many alternators test good on bench but were still bad because a lot of those bench testers don't recognize the voltage regulator so it shows good
you have a internal voltage regulator built in your alternator that prob went bad sending a signal to the comp saying somethings wrong turning on gen light this is common
if you have any mechanical skills its not a hard job replacing the voltage regulator and it can save you lots of money in long run
